Mission & Service with the Community

At Highland Park Christian Church there are a variety of opportunities to get involved in giving back to the community – both near and far.

Welcome Table

Every Thursday from 5 pm to 6 pm the church hosts a free meal for anyone who wishes to come.  There is no cost and there is no agenda.  Everyone is always welcome.

If you would like to help at the Welcome Table or have questions, please contact the office at 515-244-3182 and they will put you in touch with the group that facilitates this ministry.

Clothes Closet

One of the ministries at Highland Park Christian Church is a FREE clothes closet that provides clothes, shoes, coats, and other apparel for all genders, ages, and sizes.  Anyone is welcome to come and choose from the assortment of gently used clothing. We only ask that you sign in so we know how many guests have visited.

The Clothes Closet is open:

  • Mon. & Fri. 10-noon
  • 1st Thurs. of the month 4-6 p.m.

Enter through the southernmost door on the west side of the building.

Donations of clean, gently-used clothing are accepted when the Clothes Closet is open.

Food Pantry

HPCC is a Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) mobile for pantry site the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

HPCC also supports the DMARC by collecting food and monetary donations. You can find a list of the most needed items by clicking here. We accept gifts for the Food Pantry any time during the month but lift up the 3rd Sunday of the month in worship as the DMARC Food Pantry Sunday.

Dorcas Group

The Dorcas group is a ministry of Highland Park Christian Church that utilizes their sewing, quilting, and embroidery skills to create beautiful quilts.  They have an annual sale, typically in October. All proceeds of the sale go to the Church World Service to purchase blankets for people across the country and world experiencing displacement due to disaster and war.  If you have a knack for sewing or quilting, or some extra time on your hands and no sewing skills come to join this ministry.  They typically meet on the 2nd Tuesday and the 4th Tuesday of the month at 10 am.

Heifer International

Highland Park Christian Church supports Heifer International by collecting quarters on the 1st Sunday of each month. Funds are then used to help families build sustainable agricultural practices around the world.

Other opportunities include events with churches in our region, such as regional, national, and international mission trips and community outreach opportunities.
